'Round 2' from Sonic CD
OK, so what do we have here? A picture of Little Planet from Sonic CD? What we're going to concentrate on now is that junglish area in the top-right area of the planet. It looks like ruins too, neh? Take a look at these pictures... (Thanks to Jan Abaza for these)
![]() ![]() Looks pretty much like the R2 on the map to me. So let's have a look at the other Little Planet images, thanks to Rattleman!
Even though the quality of the pictures is limited, you can see that the ruins are modified in each version. It seems they had all been designed, but R2 was scrapped... Now we go onto the theory bit. If you've played Ristar, you'll know what I'm talking about. If you've never played Ristar, I have uploaded it here. I wonder how long that will stay there...? If you get a 404 error, please tell me and I'll upload it to Geocities - my ROMs account. Anyway, back on topic. Ristar has a level near the beginning called Planet Undertow. Sounds like any other water level, neh? Not really. Take a look at this title screen...
I see ruins! Comparing this with the R2 shot from Sonic CD above, and saying that this level is called R2 (judging by the big lettering "Round 2") it seems safe to say that this level was inspired by Sonic CD's lost level R2! Also, if that's not good enough for you as proof of a ruin R2 level, take a look at Sonic 3D! Its second level is a ruin level too...now with pictures!
(All pictures are from the Genesis version) Some of the other levels match SCD's other levels too. An expanded version of this will be on Abaza-san's site when he updates. (If ever. ;D) (Whoops, he updated, and no, that isn't there. =( Might be next time...)
